Our story

It takes a village.

These are words that have been passed down generationally to mothers and families, yet it is the single most important need in modern day parenthood.

There is a motherhood crisis that is prevalent in North America and many Western countries, where mothers and families are deeply unsupported and current platforms are not solving the issue.

of mothers are desperately seeking community support

1 in 5

mothers experience postpartum depression or anxiety

20%

of North American households are single mothers, with no support

Let's bring the village back to mothers and families, so no parent ever has to feel alone.

Gianna Edwards, founder of Haven — A Mother's Village.
Meet the founder

Gianna Edwards.

Gianna Edwards is the founder of Haven — A Mother's Village app. She is a mom-preneur from the Greater Toronto Area with two children and previously a corporate Human Resources professional.

After being disabled in pregnancy and giving birth to her second child, Gianna made a meaningful career pivot, dedicating herself to supporting maternal and family wellness. She expanded her work by studying energy healing modalities and is currently working towards her Reiki Grandmaster certification, deepening her commitment to holistic healing and supporting individuals and families on their wellness journeys.

Professionally, Gianna has over a decade of corporate Human Resources experience. She primarily worked in Canadian organizations with business professionals and vendors to create project-specific programs, tailored to organizations and their employees' needs.

Her diverse business experience, combined with her holistic wellness journey, provides a strong foundation for building Haven. Through research, lived experience and a deep commitment to serving others, she is dedicated to understanding and creating accessible support for the evolving needs of mothers and families.

A note from the founder

Haven is not just a business idea.
It is personal.

After giving birth during one of the most isolating times in COVID and being disabled in my second pregnancy, I experienced how difficult it can be for mothers and families to access the support they truly need. These experiences transformed my life and inspired me to create something that could help others feel less alone.

This project is my passion, my mission and my purpose in supporting the community. It is my commitment to help mothers and families heal, connect and thrive. As a mother, I searched tirelessly for a modern day solution to the loss of the village that once surrounded families. Along the way, I spoke with countless families listening to stories of grief, trauma, lack of support, burnout and ongoing struggle. I am now taking action in support of my own motherhood journey and for the mothers and families around me and generations that came before me.

This project is my way of creating meaningful change. My vision for Haven is to raise awareness, rebuild community and provide practical support for families navigating the realities of parenthood, reminding parents and caregivers that they were never meant to do this alone.

Please join me on this journey supporting North American households, starting with my home country, Canada!

Mission

To support and nurture mothers in the most important role in the world.

Vision

To build a true village, a community and a family that uplifts mothers and raises the next generation together.

What we stand for

Four things we won't
compromise on.

Safe & Private

Members are verified, villages can be private, and there is no advertising and no selling of your data. Ever.

Local First

Help that can't reach you isn't help. Haven is built around proximity, not scale — which is why we open one community at a time.

Emotionally Aware

The app asks how you are before it asks anything else, and it never turns a hard day into a metric or a broken streak.

Inclusive

A village needs more than one kind of person in it — fathers, grandparents, students, neighbours, volunteers, local businesses.

Who Haven is for

It was never only
about mothers.

The grandmother with a free afternoon. The neighbour with a car. The student who loves kids. The dad on parental leave. The local business that wants to give something back. Haven asks who you are when you join, then puts you where you're useful.

Our commitment

Our commitment is to ensure we have a platform that is not only functional and beneficial to the community, but also safe to use. Due to the sensitive nature of maternal and family wellness, safety and liability are an important risk to highlight. We will be ensuring that we do our due diligence in liability research, safety app features and following Canadian legal protocols (PIPEDA) to ensure the safety of our community users. Our community users are the most important aspect of this platform, thus we look forward to feedback along the way so that we can continue updating the app, based on your needs.
